  1. Deep Bhayani

This was very helpful in priming our filters. Easy to use. Painless. Recommend to anyone with a Berkey.

  2. Lynnea Dowell

I am very handy and tried all kinds of things to get it to seal. It’s just flimsy and the connectors are not at all designed to be air tight. The silicone tubes stretch and the tiny valves are not long enough to provide any kind of grip. Dissapointing.

  3. Missy Guthrie

I purchased a used Berkey water filter, and the person who sold it to me no longer had the faucet priming button thing. I did some research and found this, which worked to get my filters primed! I also love the fact that if we ever didn’t have the necessary amount of water pressure, we could still keep our berkey going.

  4. Justin Menning

Bought this primer as this was my first Berkey and i wanted to try and get everything done correctly. This was kind of a waste of money. The components don’t fit well together and i could do the exact same thing with the o-ring and bathroom faucet to get water into the filters. Save your money and just prime the filters without this. The price doesn’t match the usefulness of this product.

  5. Kerri Gross

Makes priming the black elements so simple. My faucet has a wider spout on it, which makes the regular priming buttons virtually impossible. I will say I had to squeeze the priming pump about 150 times, but that’s it, then the water started flowing. Definitely a must have purchase for priming Berkey elements. Well worth the money and frustration.

  6. Jane Sage

Kinda needed this and I didn’t realize it until a while after getting my water tank. Buy this when you buy the tank. It’s worth the money! I didn’t buy it at first bc it didn’t seem important but I think it should be added to the package. MUST BUY!!!

  7. Jayne Anctil

This pump is terrible. Poorly crafted and just all around junk. I know it’s necessary to have when you have a Berkey but they could do a little better. You pump and the connections are coming apart. My husband just ended up sucking the water through the filter instead of using this.

  8. thomas lombard

Not as great as I had hoped, but it does work and I will keep it and continue to use it.

For priming, I find that using the standard rubber gasket that comes with the black Berkey filters works fine when I remove the aerator from my kitchen faucet. This gadget isn’t anything special for priming. It shines when you want to dry the filter (but how often do you need to dry the filter?).

It is probably a 4 star product, but the price is way excessive for these pieces of plastic and rubber (loss of star for being overpriced).

  9. Mary Frances Stahl

When we got our Berkey, we got rid of our primers, thinking we wouldn’t need them for 10 years. Boy were we wrong! At 6 months our Berkey slowed to practically nothing. I talked to some people and they told me that I need to scrub the filters. I tried that and it still wouldn’t work. I contacted the company and they told me that I could buy new primers for my filters, but I opted for this kit instead. This worked really well. I put the filter in a 1/2 gallon mason jar standing up and primed it that way because I didn’t have a bucket big enough, or that I felt was clean enough to prime my filters in. Each filter was primed in a few minutes and our Berkey is working like new again.

  10. Erica West

I have a travel Bentley water filter and it was filtering water extremely slow. After reading good reviews I decided to take the plunge. The primer was easy to assemble with easy to understand directions. I was priming my filter in minutes. The flow rate has increased and i saved some cash as can maintain my filter for a longer period of time.

  11. Patricia Hebert

This was very helpful in priming our filters. Easy to use. Painless. Recommend to anyone with a Berkey.

  12. ted yates

Works well and can backwash filters, too. No more water all over the kitchen when priming the filters for my Burkey.

  13. Tricia Enderlin

I used this the moment I received it. I makes drying the elements while purging them possible. The primer also primes the elements for filtration much faster and much easier. You do get a workout squeezing the bladder too. It comes apart easy enough so it can dry out after use, and the instructions are simple to follow. Excellent product.

  14. Donna Allgaier-Lamberti

Our filter system may sit for a couple of months without use. the flow thru them can be slow for the first couple of days if they are not primed, this unit works perfectly

  1. The water will go into the black element and the outside of the element will slowly bead up and around the element. When it has completely beaded up the element is primed. You will probably want to discard the first one or two batches to make sure that the water used to prime the filters is totally expelled from the system.

  2. Please prime for atleast 2-3 minutes, making sure filter bubbles come from complete Black Berkey Elements.

  3. I couldn’t get this to work, unfortunately. Ended up getting the round thing to work. The filters are primed when little air bubbles go up to top of filters.
